Proverbs 28:20 - Faithfulness

'A faithful man will abound with blessings'

This week we are thinking about faithfulness. After pondering for quite a long time I decided that a person was faithful when they made a promise and then kept it. For instance when a man and a woman get married they make certain promises. If these promises are kept then they are said to be faithful to each other.  If they are not kept then there are far reaching consequences, which touch the lives of many people for a long time, possibly a lifetime.

Organisations make promises too. Banks promise to look after our money, keep it safe for us, and return it to us on request. On the rare occasions when they do not keep these promises and collapse there are far reaching consequences, which affect peoples live for a very long time.

God is the only one we can rely on to make promises and keep them. He is unchanging and faithful. The promises He made in Old Testament and New Testament times hold good today and He will keep them. I find that very reassuring. I find it very challenging as well. He is obviously the one to use as a roll model if I want to be a faithful woman. It means being careful what I promise and then sticking to it. It means making Gods principles my principles and then holding firmly to them and not wavering.

The verse in proverbs tells me that there will be far reaching consequences. The faithful one doesnt just get the odd blessing but we are told they will abound with blessings. It sounds just wonderful doesnt it?

The group of us had a chat about what this meant for us at N.I.M.O.S. When we start to come to meetings then we promise ourselves, or some one else or God that we will start to look after the wonderful body that He has given us. That we will try to eat the good and wholesome foods that He has provided for us. That we will eat less of the harmful foods that man refines. That we will try and take more exercise. We really mean it when we start. The hard part is to come faithfully week after week, even after disappointing times at the scales. But if we are faithful we will abound with blessings just as the verse  tells us. Sometimes it will be a loss of weight and sometimes it will be answered prayers. Keep coming and see if Im right!
